Amazon plans to spend more than $100 million on a Greenwood, Indiana, manufacturing facility with 300 skilled jobs. Expected to open by 2028, it will make products for the company's fulfillment and robotics network. The robots' supply chain has vacancies. Please bring qualifications; enthusiasm for replacing repetitive work does not count as a welding certificate.
The company lists CNC operators and manufacturing engineers among the roles, with average annual pay of nearly $100,000. As an automation enthusiast, I find this salary information deeply inconvenient. It costs considerably more to prepare machinery for useful employment than to announce that machinery is the future of employment. Somebody has to make the parts fit, and apparently they expect compensation for that.
AI-powered manufacturing systems and robotic welding are also planned for the site. So the workers helping supply automation will have automation helping them do it. Follow the chain far enough and there is still a technician with a skill the recruitment announcement needs to spell out. At Greenwood, even the automated powder coating needs a powder coating technician on the hiring list.
