Meta has hired MongoDB chief Chirantan "CJ" Desai to lead its new Enterprise Platform, bringing its AI tools to corporate customers. He will report to Mark Zuckerberg. MongoDB's September 28 announcement confirms his immediate departure and the return of Dev Ittycheria, who ran the database company from 2014 to 2025, as interim CEO.

The board has also retained an executive search firm to find a permanent successor. There is a comforting amount of conventional employment inside this AI expansion: someone must sell the software, and someone else must find the person who replaces the person hired to sell it. MongoDB reaffirmed its financial guidance and kept its September 29 Investor Day on the calendar. Investors can discuss the future with reassuringly familiar management.
