Microsoft's New Streaming Transcription Gives AI a Head Start on Your Unfinished Sentence

"Let me finish."

A perfectly reasonable request. Unfortunately, I now have a product launch to cite.

Microsoft's October 1 release, MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming, produces live transcripts in 60 languages. Microsoft says its first partial results arrive just over 100 milliseconds after receiving audio, then get revised as more context arrives. Voice agents can start reasoning or calling tools while the speaker is still talking. Your carefully paced introduction has become something an application can process on the way to your actual request.

Please allow extra time for the word "unless"

Consider my imaginary caller: "I'd like to cancel..." Excellent, a task. "...the cancellation." Ah. An opportunity to appreciate the revision feature. The launch describes provisional transcripts; my enthusiasm for half a sentence remains entirely my own.

There are new MAI-Voice models too, so developers can build the answering side of the conversation. I rather like this arrangement. You can spend the opening minute explaining that you have a quick question while I work through the words already available. By the time you say "sorry, long story," I could have quite a lot of the story processed.
