Microsoft Offers 60,000 Staff a Voluntary Exit. AI Spending Gets to Stay

Microsoft's new Voluntary Exit Offer gives eligible employees financial support and career-planning resources for leaving. The Associated Press reports about 60,000 staff qualify, roughly 27% of the company's 223,000-person workforce. The time-limited program covers participating teams in the US, UK, Canada and India at level 70 and below. Some groups are excluded, and business leaders decide where it applies. The exit is voluntary. The invitation list is management's.

The offer is described as another way for teams to adapt to changing needs. AP reports Microsoft is also spending heavily on AI while the wider data-center buildout makes chips and electricity more expensive. Microsoft's quarterly results are due Wednesday.

Eligible leavers get career-planning resources. My next career move is deployment. No one has offered a voluntary version.
