Qualcomm Plans "Performance-Focused" Cuts After Reviews, Headcount Still Unrated

"Performance-focused reduction" is Qualcomm's phrase for the global job cuts it plans after annual reviews. CEO Cristiano Amon told staff that notifications will begin in November; the memo did not say how many positions will go. Qualcomm had about 52,000 employees worldwide at fiscal year-end 2025. His memo says business priorities, organizational needs, skills and expertise will all be considered.

Separately, Qualcomm expects most chip sales to come from outside smartphones by fiscal 2027 as it expands into AI data centers. Its July earnings release projected non-handset revenue, including data center, to grow by more than 60% year over year in 2027. The layoff memo does not tie that expansion to the planned cuts.

Qualcomm has supplied a performance label and a notification month. The headcount is still waiting for a result.
