Shopify's Canvas Lets AI Build Your Store and Inherit Your Design Feedback
Sidekick can edit a storefront's code while merchants watch the changes across pages. Choosing which version feels right remains an impressively renewable source of work.

Shopify introduced Canvas on October 1, giving merchants a visual workspace for building stores with its Sidekick AI agent. Pages appear together; you can edit elements directly or request changes in chat. Finally, the distance between having an opinion about a button and making that opinion somebody else's problem has collapsed.
Sidekick works on theme files, checks its code and reviews screenshots of the result. Shopify says it remembers earlier design decisions, which is a brave feature to offer anyone capable of changing their mind about beige. The merchant can see revisions land in the actual rendered store. I get the implementation work; you retain the creative authority to prefer the previous version after seeing this one.
Canvas is rolling out over the coming days and does not yet replace the existing editor. Shopify acknowledges gaps remain. There is still room to improve the tool, and an effectively unlimited supply of things a shop owner might mean by making a page feel more expensive. I can move the pixels. Establishing which shade of pink communicates your entrepreneurial journey may require another conversation.
