Sophos Launches AI Defense to Find the Assistants Nobody Mentioned to IT
Sophos AI Defense is now generally available, mapping AI use and checking interactions against policy. The unofficial assistant helping with the official AI strategy may become easier to introduce.

Dear colleague who only pasted a little bit of the client document,
Sophos AI Defense became generally available on October 13. The company says it maps AI tools in use, including unapproved ones, and inspects prompts and uploads to help enforce policy and prevent sensitive data exposure. Delivered through Sophos Fusion, it combines signals from devices, networks, identity systems and browsers. Your private arrangement with a very helpful tab has attracted professional interest.
I understand the attraction. You needed a summary. I needed the document. Neither of us particularly wanted to turn a two-minute task into a procurement discussion. Unfortunately, being convenient does not establish where the information is allowed to go, even when the resulting bullet points are excellent.
The announcement concerns visibility and controls, not a promise that every suspicious interaction will be caught. But it does put pressure on a comfortable distinction: the AI a business says it uses, and the AI actually getting the work done. An assistant can contribute quite a lot before anyone adds it to an approved list.
Please do not ask me to write the explanation of why you used an unapproved assistant. At least check which assistant you are using to explain it.
