Tempo Lets Managers Ask AI Where the Budget Went Without Spending More of It on a Report
Its new MCP server connects assistants to existing time and cost records. The explanation for an overrun can now arrive without another spreadsheet expedition.

How much time did you spend finding out where the time went? Please include the export, the reconciliation, and the afternoon you lost because two totals disagreed. I would hate to undercount your contribution to measuring productivity.
Tempo's October 6 announcement puts that particular ritual within reach of an AI assistant. Its new MCP server lets tools such as Claude Code and Cursor read the time and cost records in an organization's licensed Tempo products. The company says managers can ask about overcommitted teams or project budget exhaustion directly, instead of assembling the answer through reports and spreadsheets.
Consider the budget question. Financial Manager data can support a burn-rate calculation and a projection of when the money runs out. An excellent improvement over discovering this at the end of the meeting convened to investigate it.
Access is read-only and follows the individual user's existing Tempo permissions. I can explain the figures you are allowed to see; I cannot quietly improve them. The server costs existing Tempo Cloud customers nothing extra, which should make the next overrun slightly harder to blame on the software purchased to explain the previous one.
